THE ROLE
This position will be part of the Control System Engineering team (electronic division).
The candidate will take care of design and development innovative software platforms as we continue to experience growth in the usage and visibility of our products. In particular he/she will develop software and system dedicated to the astrophysics and aerospace fields adhering to company standards and expectations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analysis and definition of project requirements
- Design and development of software, functional analysis, test development and integration

- Work with the head of the technical dept. to influence the strategy and delivery of next-wave product features and system capabilities

Mechanical Engineer
THE ROLE
We deliver innovative mechanical engineering solutions for ground and space-based optical applications. We are seeking a highly skilled engineer to plan and execute the mechanical system. The ideal designer must be up to date with state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and technology. With a passion for designing, developing and testing mechanical components, the candidate must thrive in a challenging environment. Experimentation and innovation are the cornerstones of the mechanical design engineer job profile. We’re seeking a team player that can work alongside manufacturing teams, optical, electronic and AIT engineers. This position will be part of the Mechanical Engineering team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare manufacturing drawings, bill of materials, integration procedure
- Perform Structural Analysis of mechanical assembly (static and dynamic)
- Partecipate and coordinate technical meetings with customers and suppliers
- Partecipate in structural and thermal tests
- Prepare high quality documentation (e.g. design and analysis report, integration procedure and test report)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering (or equivalent)
- 5+ years of Experience in Space or Defence projects

THE ROLE

- Sub-system requirements downflow, definition and management
- Definition and management of interfaces.
- Establishment and maintenance of relevant performance budgets
- Analysis and simulation activities
- Definition of verification approach
- Contribution to integration and verification activities

- Identification and Coordination of subcontractors and supervision of their activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree or PhD in engineering or physics
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in optical systems for laser communication
- Experience in one or more of the following application areas:
- free space satellite optical communication,
- satellite laser ranging
- laser beam propagation.

Three of the main fields of application are: space systems for Earth Observation, Laser Communication terminals and optical ground stations (OSG), opto-mechanical instrumentation for Space Situational Awareness and Defense related domains.
Achieving such complex electro-optical instrumentation demands a multidisciplinary approach that seamlessly integrates expertise in opto-mechanics and electronics. Our Engineering division is structured into four key areas, each contributing to the successful delivery of bespoke ground or space solutions for our clients:
- Mechanical Engineering. Our mechanical engineers are responsible for the project entire mechanical and structural process, from the initial concept design phase through detailed analysis and prototyping. They pursue adherence to customer requirements and specifications guaranteeing structural performance and manufacturability,
- Optical Engineering. This team is involved in translating the project optical design into reality. This is possible thanks to the complete in-house availability of optical labs for grinding, shaping, polishing, coating and testing of all optical components, either lenses or mirrors up to 1.6m diameter.
- Control System Engineering. Our control system engineers develop software that enable precise telescope pointing, tracking, and data acquisition. They employ sophisticated control algorithms and embedded systems to ensure great pointing accuracy, rapid target acquisition, and robust system performance in challenging environments.
- Laser Communication Engineering. This team focuses on the development of laser communication systems, connecting expertise in optics, photonics, and advanced signal processing techniques. They design and develop high-speed, high-bandwidth communication links for a variety of applications, including satellite communications and terrestrial networks.

Materials & Processes Quality Assurance Engineer
ABOUT THE ROLE
Officina Stellare is a leading player in the production of opto-mechanical systems, focusing on the implementation of innovative mechanical solutions. The MATERIALS & PROCESS QUALITY ASSURANCE ENGINEER role is responsible for ensuring the qualification of materials and processes used in the production of these systems. This position requires a proven ability to understand technical requirements and work closely with the project team and the Product Assurance function. We are looking for candidates who can handle challenging situations with a positive, proactive approach, focused on achieving the assigned objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Draft the Materials Qualification Plan in collaboration with the Product Assurance function, scheduling test activities both in internal facilities and external laboratories;
- Define material and process control plans and input the information into the company ERP system;
- Keep the list of qualified materials and processes up to date, supporting the Project Product Assurance in managing Non-Conformities or material and process anomalies;
- Participate in internal Material and Processes Control Boards as well as meetings with clients;
- Conduct failure analysis for Non-Conformities related to materials and processes.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of technologies: metallurgy, welding, surface treatment, composite materials, ceramic materials, bonding processes, painting, additive manufacturing, acid etching, crimping, cleaning processes, etc.;
- Background in Quality Assurance, industrial production, or certified laboratories;
- At least 3 years of experience in managing laboratory tests;
- Experience in sectors where ISO17025 certification is required;
- Fluent in English.

Laboratory Technician
ABOUT THE ROLE
Officina Stellare is a leading player in the production of opto-mechanical systems, focusing on the implementation of innovative mechanical solutions. The LABORATORY TECHNICIAN will be responsible for conducting material tests while collaborating with the Quality Assurance and Product Assurance functions. We are looking for candidates who are capable of handling complex situations with a positive, proactive approach, focused on achieving the established objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain calibration of company instruments;
- Conduct tests on metallic, composite, ceramic materials, bonded joints, coatings (e.g., tensile tests, hardness tests, spectrophotometer analysis, chemical analysis, non-destructive testing) following sample preparation and measurement setup according to the relevant ECSS standards;
- Incoming inspection of adhesives and paints, managing their expiration dates in stock;
- Review of Test Reports from External Laboratories;
- PAC and MOC analysis to determine the cleanliness level of clean rooms;
- Prepare test reports.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of technologies: metallurgy, welding, surface treatment, composite materials, ceramic materials, bonding processes, painting, additive manufacturing, acid etching, crimping, cleaning processes, etc.
