Singapore has launched its first Sentinel-class offshore patrol vessel for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) at the Fassmer shipyard in Germany, in a ceremony officiated by Singapore’s Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing together with Germany’s Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius.
With a baseline crew of 40, the 94.85 m vessels displacing 2,700 tonnes combine kinetic armament with a set of non-kinetic capabilities, including the Sitep Italia laser dazzler and acoustic hailing device, alongside a less-lethal grenade launcher and water cannon.
The selection of Sitep’s systems for a new-generation naval platform confirms the value of non-lethal deterrence solutions for maritime security, coastal patrol and the protection of naval assets, an area where Sitep Italia, an Officina Stellare Group company, brings decades of naval expertise.
