Officina Stellare signs new ASI contract for quantum and lasercom ground station

Officina Stellare S.p.A. has signed a significant new contract with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) for the design and construction of a complete and transportable optical ground station for applications such as quantum communication and Lasercom.

The system will be interoperable with the EuroQCI system and compatible with future scenarios beyond LEO orbit. Officina Stellare will lead the project with its subsidiary ThinkQuantum S.r.l. and partners such as Thales Alenia Space Italia and Telespazio.

“Optical Ground stations represent the connection point between terrestrial networks and new space-based laser-modulated telecommunication segments,” says Gino Bucciol, Business Development Director of Officina Stellare. “This contract allows the Officina Stellare Group to further consolidate its leadership in this specific sector, while simultaneously elevating the technological level of its products. This essential tool will enhance Italy’s role in next-generation infrastructure, ensuring secure and high-speed communications between continents.”
